A Night at the Oscars

Every successful business venture starts with an idea. That idea then grows into a vision – a projected forecast of how the future will look when success is realised. That’s the blueprint. That’s what all the top business leaders and entrepreneurs do before they get out of the armchair they’ve been dreaming in.

Success depends upon two things: the drive to make it happen and the determination to see it through no matter what. There may well be obstacles along the way that threaten to undermine the whole deal. Friends and acquaintances might dismiss the idea and even treat it with ridicule or suspicion. Without the necessary resilience needed, it’s easy to concede defeat and give in.

On this journey from novelist to filmmaker, I am learning many things. Number one is, surround yourself with the right people. You can only do so much on your own, so it pays to enlist the help of those who share your energy and enthusiasm. Secondly, take the time to do things properly. Avoid the temptation to rush to the next stage before you’ve completed the task at hand.

I’ve now formed a film company for the sole purpose of bringing my screenplay to life. West Cliff Productions Limited has been registered at Companies House, and will soon be seeking investment pending clearance from HMRC. In the meantime, there’s crowdfunding campaigns, promotional videos and a social media strategy to be organised, not to mention an approach made to the Director, Producer and cast whose services I would very much like to secure.

So how do I get from here to the Oscars? Well, I suppose the first thing to do is write my acceptance speech and carry it round in my pocket until the call comes in.

Nothing wrong with a little speculative fantasy.

Watch this space…
